Top 5 Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

Makeup Geek eye shadows are some of my absolute favourites. They're beautifully pigmented and very well priced. As they're only availabel online however, it can be difficult to decide which shades to purchase. Instead you end up scouring the internet for swatches and trying to decipher which would suit you best. Today I thought I'd run through my most used shades. These are the shadows I'd recommend for anyone who's thinking about buying from Makeup Geek for the first time.

Peach Smoothie
This unassuming light peachy tone is a perfect transition shade for my skin tone. It helps to blend all the other shadows together meaning you get a really flawless and diffused finish.

Chickadee
This burn yellow can be a bit disconcerting in the pan. Most people would probably be tempted to steer well clear from packing yellow on to their eyelids. It's actually very beautiful though adn great for subtly warming up an eye look.

Cocoa Bear
Cocoa Bear is a classic warm matte brown that I tend to use most days. It's perfect for darkening up the crease and can be used with so many different looks.

In the Spotlight
I've never used a shimmer shadows as pigmented as the Makeup Geek foiled shadow. They're creamy texture makes them look almost like molten metal. One of the my favourites for every day is 'In the Spotlight'. It's a light rose gold colour that really makes your eyes pop when placed all over the lid.

Bitten
Bitten is a beautiful deep red. It looks amazing on the outer corner when creating a warm look or even all over the lid for something more dramatic and smoky.

Free Girl Boss Wallpapers

As you can probably tell from my Christmas Wallpapers post, I love a seasonal background change. And the new year calls for something a bit motivational. These beautiful typographical prints act as a quick reminder to hustle hard. This little nudge is particularly useful when you're about to use social media to procrastinate from actually getting stuff done. Each one is linked separately below.

25 New Year's Resolution Ideas

Contentious though they are, I do love New Year's Resolutions. There's something so exciting about mulling over the possibilities of another year. It's the time to cosy up with a blanket and notebook and write down all of your aspirations for the upcoming months.

I know that a lot of people are adverse to the idea of New Year's Resolutions, probably due to the speed with which they are often forgotten. However, I think that setting lifestyle goals for the new year can be incredibly useful. It can be easy to live day-to-day and wonder what you've done with the past 12 months come December time.

A resolution gives a theme to your year. What that theme is is completely up to you. 2017 might be the year of self-love or reading or health. By pinning a focus point to your year, you're likely to become more productive and more accomplished.

As a perpetual goal setter, New Year's Resolutions come fairly easily to me. If anything I find it hard to limit myself on the number of targets I give myself. I know that lots of people do find setting resolutions difficult, especially if it's something you've eschewed in the past. To help out I've written a list of 25 ongoing goals that you might want to work towards throughout the year. I'd recommend only picking one or two as it's quite easy to get overwhelmed by too many life changes.

  1. Wake up earlier
  2. Read more
  3. Go to the gym
  4. Write a book
  5. Create a capsule wardrobe that emulates your personal style
  6. Save money
  7. Listen to a new album every week
  8. Practice meditation
  9. Improve your vocabulary
  10. Listen to 2 podcasts a week
  11. Do Yoga
  12. Write every single day
  13. Sign up for a run
  14. Raise money for charity
  15. De-clutter your home and life
  16. Travel to new places
  17. Try something new every month
  18. Read more non-fiction books
  19. Compliment people more
  20. Practice self love and be kinder to yourself
  21. Go outside more
  22. Procrastinate less and be more productive
  23. Learn a language
  24. Cut out toxic relationships
  25. Stay on top of University work (actually go to your lectures)

Lush Oxford Street Christmas Haul

 Lush Christmas Haul

Lush Oxford Street Haul

No Christmas would be complete without a trip to Lush and where better to go than the Oxford Street store. It isn't hard to get carried away when you're in 3 floors of Lush heaven with bubble bars and bath bombs galore. Needless to say I couldn't resist picking up a few things.

MAGIC WAND
This pink wand smells like the Snow Fairy shower gel. The cult classic scent is super sweet (maybe a little too sweet for some?). Unlike the majority of Lush's bubble bars this comes on a stick meaning you can use it for multiple baths.

SHOOT FOR THE STARS
I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favourites. The honey scent is lovely (great for fans of 'Honey, I Washed the Kids') and I have a feeling the bright blue and gold will make a beautiful starry sky bath.

FATHER CHRISTMAS
This is a similar scent to Magic Wand, just in bath bomb form with a cute little Smiling Santa.

PEEPING SANTA
This one is also sweet (are we sensing a theme here?) It smells like strawberries and fills your bath with Christmas red bubbles.

LUXURY LUSH PUD
Luxury Lush Pud is a psychedelic rainbow Christmas pudding. Its scented with tonka and lavender making it really relaxing - perfect for a bedtime bath with lots of candles followed by some snuggly pyjamas.

BUTTERBEAR
This is much more subtle than the other products I picked. It has cocoa power and calming ylang ylang to de-stress and cocoa butter to leave your skin silky soft.

The Best At Home Gel Nails

Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish Review

Essie Gel Couture Flat Lay

Essie Spool Me Over and Spiked with Style

Over the past year or so the trend amongst drugstore brands to recreate that professional gel manicure has been unmistakeable. Walking down the aisles of boots it seems as though every beauty brand has a new miracle gel nail polish, each promising perfect results. I've tried a fair few of them, from Rimmel to Barry M, and none of them have delivered.

Needless to say I was reluctant when I head that Essie were releasing their Nail Gel Couture collection. In fact I probably would have bypassed them all together had I not watched Tati speak about them in this video: World's Best Gel Nail Polish. After hearing her rave about the glossy finish and staying power I though I'd better give it a go for myself. Surprise, surprise - it didn't disappoint.

Colour Range
The colour range is particularly impressive with 25 shades ranging from dusty nudes to deep silky burgundies. I've never seen such an extensive range of colours in gel polishes so Essie have done an incredible job. You're bound to find a colour you like. I personally picked up 'spiked with style', a beautiful deep red, and 'spool me over', a pretty pale pink. I also got one of the top coats which you need to get that high-shine gel finish.

Formula
The formula is beautiful. Whilst it's never going to be as glossy as a professional manicure this is the closest I've ever come to achieving the same result. The topcoat makes your nails ultra shiny and I get compliments whenever I wear them.

Wear
The topcoat is supposedly formulated to prevent chips for up to 14 days. Personally, my manicure didn't make it that long. It lasted about a week, which, for me, is still very impressive. I usually find that I have chips within the first day or two so this is a considerable improvement. No other nail polish that I've used has been able to deliver the same lasting power.
