25 New Year's Resolution Ideas

Contentious though they are, I do love New Year's Resolutions. There's something so exciting about mulling over the possibilities of another year. It's the time to cosy up with a blanket and notebook and write down all of your aspirations for the upcoming months.

I know that a lot of people are adverse to the idea of New Year's Resolutions, probably due to the speed with which they are often forgotten. However, I think that setting lifestyle goals for the new year can be incredibly useful. It can be easy to live day-to-day and wonder what you've done with the past 12 months come December time.

A resolution gives a theme to your year. What that theme is is completely up to you. 2017 might be the year of self-love or reading or health. By pinning a focus point to your year, you're likely to become more productive and more accomplished.

As a perpetual goal setter, New Year's Resolutions come fairly easily to me. If anything I find it hard to limit myself on the number of targets I give myself. I know that lots of people do find setting resolutions difficult, especially if it's something you've eschewed in the past. To help out I've written a list of 25 ongoing goals that you might want to work towards throughout the year. I'd recommend only picking one or two as it's quite easy to get overwhelmed by too many life changes.

  1. Wake up earlier
  2. Read more
  3. Go to the gym
  4. Write a book
  5. Create a capsule wardrobe that emulates your personal style
  6. Save money
  7. Listen to a new album every week
  8. Practice meditation
  9. Improve your vocabulary
  10. Listen to 2 podcasts a week
  11. Do Yoga
  12. Write every single day
  13. Sign up for a run
  14. Raise money for charity
  15. De-clutter your home and life
  16. Travel to new places
  17. Try something new every month
  18. Read more non-fiction books
  19. Compliment people more
  20. Practice self love and be kinder to yourself
  21. Go outside more
  22. Procrastinate less and be more productive
  23. Learn a language
  24. Cut out toxic relationships 
  25. Stay on top of University work (actually go to your lectures)
