6 MANTRAS I'M LIVING BY IN 2016

I recently read a post on From Roses entitled ‘7 Of The LifeMantras I’ll Be Living By This Year’. I thought it was a really lovely idea and a great way to adjust any current negative thought processes. I’ve come up with six things I’m trying to work on this year in order to be a happier and kinder human being.

1 // GIVE COMPLIMENTS
When someone gives me a compliment it makes my day. I feel so much more confident and it puts me in a great mood. I want to try hard to compliment people more. Often when I see my friends my brain is full of lovely thoughts about them. I just forget to voice them, assuming that they must already know how great they are. I want to try to remember to say these things out loud as it’s always nice to let people know what you appreciate about them.

2 // EVERYONE IS STRUGGLING
It’s so easy to get caught up in your own life. Sometimes I feel as if I must be the only person in the world with any problems and can quickly pass judgment if someone is rude or unkind. This year I want to give more people the benefit of the doubt. I want to be patient with others, knowing that they are probably facing their own battles every day.

3 // MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS
What Suzie says of Sally says more of Suzie than it does of Sally. I don’t think I’m a bitchy person but it’s easy to pass judgment. I see people doing something and think what I would do differently. At the end of the day though, it’s not my life and it’s certainly none of my business. I want to try to hold back the judgment and just be happy for other people’s decisions.

4 // IGNORE PEOPLE
On the flip side of this, I want to work hard on caring less about what other people think. I think for the most part I’m actually pretty good at this. I don’t often let what other people say about my life choices bother me. Occasionally however I’ll find myself stopping myself from doing things that I really want to because I worry about the opinions of others.

5 // ACTUALLY, I CAN
Sometimes without even thinking about it I just assume I’m incapable of doing things. I can’t wear that. I can’t win that. I can’t excel at that. I think it’s important to recognise that thought process and stop it in its tracks.

6 // FOCUS ON ME
Every so often I’ll find myself feeling proud of something (shocker, I know). Then I start looking at the people around me and comparing myself. Before I know it I hate everything I’ve done since birth and feel completely and utterly stupid for ever feeling good about myself. I’m trying to focus more on what I’m doing and how I’m improving. I find that I feel a lot better if I only compare myself to my own work. That way I can just focus on little improvements and not worry about being the best.
