July Round-Up

July has been a jam-packed month. I started a new job, moved out of my house in London, watched my lovely boyfriend graduate and found out that I’ll be studying abroad in America. It’s been a wonderful whirlwind. Here’s a quick round-up of all of the things that have made July so lovely.

July has been primarily been spent wearing my embroideredred bardot top from New Look. I particularly like styling it with my white ASOSculottes or blue denim dress. Shoes-wise it’s been nothing but my Topshop Jolenes. I’ve worn them to work, parties and lunches. They look equally beautiful with white dresses and ripped blue skinny jeans.

Working a lot this month has meant that reading has taken a bit of a back seat. Instead, I’ve been listening to a lot of audiobooks, whilst I’m driving or walking. I finished Juno Dawson’s The Gender Games earlier and the month and really enjoyed it. I bought it after listening to her being interviewed on Emma Gannon’s podcast, and found her book a really easily digestible source of information on the impact of current gender norms. I’ve also almost finished Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge. This was much more of an eye-opening read for me. It presented information that I perhaps hadn’t thought about as deeply as gender, and really required me to come to terms with the way in which I might fuel issues with race. As a result it was simultaneously more difficult to hear and more important.

Music-wise, I’ve been listening to Glorious by Macklemore on repeat. If you haven’t already seen the video for it, please give it a watch. It’s the sweetest thing. I also saw Justin Bieber in Hyde Park at the beginning of the month and loved his acoustic version of Cold Water, which I’ve since been listening to on Radio One Live Lounge.

Between work and blogging, I’ve been watching surprisingly little television recently. Even Love Island has flown past unwatched, much to my sister’s dismay. In my excitement for upcoming visits Paris and Philadelphia however, I’ve been watching many a vlog. Watching these before I visit a new city a) gets me super pumped to visit and b) provides me with lots of ideas as to where to go. I particularly loved Tamara Kalinic’s What to Do and Wear inParis? Travel Vlog and Josie’s The Best Photo Spots in Paris?!? | FashionMumblr Travel Vlog.

Being home for university has meant I’ve made full use of the KitchenAid and dishwasher. I love spending an afternoon baking with some Stevie Wonder playing in the background. This month I posted recipes for both my OreoCheesecake and Chocolate Orange Cookies. Both of which are incredibly delicious, if I do say so myself.

The next month is set to be a good one, as it includes trips to both Devon and Paris. Devon is my happy place. I can’t wait to spend a weekend visiting only beaches and pubs surrounded by beautiful friends and family, with ice creams and laughs galore. I’m expecting morning walks along the coastline with pup in tow and a healthy portion of fish and chips. Revisiting Paris for Rory’s 21st should be wonderful. I’m can't wait to be munching on macarons and strolling down Montmartre in the sunshine. Expect to see lots of Parisian shots on Instagram.
