22 Things I'm Grateful For

Today is my birthday. I am turning 22. A couple of years ago, I dreaded the 23rd November. It meant I had to face up to the fact that I wasn't where I 'should' be. Turning a new age meant I was forced to consider where society expected me to be and where I'd always hoped I'd be. This one day a year prompted me to consider if I was progressing quickly enough and put me into a mild state of panic. What if my current situation didn't measure up to expectations?

This year I'm feeling a lot better about my birthday though. I'm happy with where I'm at in life, even if I am a few years behind everyone else (I'm only in my second year of University). I feel so lucky to have been able to experience another amazing year on this planet that my outward success seems to matter a little bit less. I've come to realise that the speed at which I get somewhere doesn't matter so much and that I should take the time to enjoy everything I'm doing. So for this post I decided to write a list of 22 things that I'm grateful for, in order to celebrate making it through another year.

1. My Degree - I feel so lucky to be studying a degree that I absolutely love. I never wake up dreading uni because my lecturers and readings are always so interesting. I feel so blessed to be doing something I love.
2. Isobel - My funny, amazing sister. She never fails to put a smile on my face and just completely gets me. She's a star.
3. Rory - My super supportive, loving boyfriend who puts up with all of my hormonal craziness and hangry moments and turns bad days into good ones
4. London - One of the best cities in the world. I'm completely in love with it.
5. Study Abroad - Getting accepted onto an amazing study abroad programme is a dream and I'm so excited to be living in America for a few months.
6. My parents - Jenny and Steve. The dream team. My number one fans since day one. I will never be able to thank them enough for everything they've done for me and for all the stresses I put them through.
8. My health - Whilst I'm not a clean eating, gym-going machine, my health is pretty good and I'm very thankful for that
9. Brunches - I just really bloody love brunch. Mushrooms on toast. Acai bowls. Blueberry pancakes. And all on aesthetically pleasing marble tables. What a time to be alive.
10. Lola - My little pup, who makes me smile every single time I see her
11. Juno - My grumpy cat. I happy danced when my parents told me I could have a kitten and I still love him to pieces.
12. My best friends - How did I get so lucky? The kindest, funniest, most loyal people on this earth. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
13. Books - What a world it would be without books. Books that have made me laugh and cry. Books that have made me angry and happy. I love books.
14. Pret a Manger - Sad but true. I just really love their soups, okay?
15. Travel - Every time I visit a new city or country, I feel so incredibly lucky. I've been to so many beautiful places and done lovely things with people I adore.
16. My cozy bed - Anyone who knows me knows I love sleep. I'm so thankful to have a warm, cozy bed to snuggle up in every night.
17. Art - I'm so thankful to all of the people that have created something that has touched me or made me think. Artists of all kinds (musicians, illustrators, poets, screenwriters, the list goes on) make this world an amazing place to live in.
18. Christmas - The build up to Christmas makes me so happy and excited. I'm grateful for Fairytale of New York, Love Actually, festive candles and mince pies.
19. Sunday Morning Walks - That lovely lazy feeling of waking up on a Sunday and going for a nice long walk in the cold morning air.
20. Dancing - I love dancing so much and feel so thankful that my parents supported me through years of lessons. My wonderful dance teacher has known me longer than most of the other people in my life.
21. Literacy - I sometimes forget how lucky I am to be born in a country where the literacy rate is so high. I'm thankful for being able to read all of the amazing books that I love and for being able to write all of my thoughts down onto a piece of paper.
22. Driving - As much as I absolutely hated driving lessons, I adore driving. I love blasting the music really loud and rolling through the countryside. It's super relaxing and makes me feel very happy.
